The Canning Stock Route doesn’t have any bookings on it for now. There was some interest from 3 potential participants from Japan but so far we’ve not heard back from them. I spoke to Brian from the Perth depot who leads it every year and he said that in the last few years bookings for it came in fairly late and just because there aren’t any bookings yet doesn’t mean that it won’t run. If the 3 Japanese guys book and you book we just need one other rider to make up the minimum number of 5 we need for it to go ahead, so things could change fairly quickly on that front.

Best we can do is keep an eye on things and let you know how it develops, or you could check back with me in a couple of months to see if there have been any further bookings. If you’d like to book then that’s great, in the event the tour does not go ahead we’ll be happy to provide a full refund or substitute with a Self Guided Tour. Unfortunately a Self Guided Tour won’t be along the same route! There is of course also the question of flight bookings which may need to be made or cancelled as applicable if the tour goes ahead or not.

Your timing sounds about right, the tour is scheduled to run from 12th to 25th August but the end date is usually a bit flexible as we can’t be sure of track conditions and daily progress until you’re actually on it! That’s part of what makes it such an adventure.

I’d say for now the solution is for us to keep in mind that you’re interested and let’s get in touch again in a few months when we’ll hopefully know more as to how the bookings have developed.
